MistyMoon has been a prominent figure in the Ultima Online community for decades. Having spent countless hours exploring the realms of the original Ultima Online, she was part of a dedicated group of players who launched UORadio.com. Through this internet radio broadcast, MistyMoon and her team have not only played music but also hosted live in-game events, adding an extra layer of excitement to the game. Events like "Deal or No Deal," "Price is Right," and even a live adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" with voice acting has become legendary among players.
Recently, MistyMoon has made a secondary home here at UORealms, bringing her talents and passion for in-game events and DJing with her. Today, we sit down with MistyMoon to delve into her experiences, her love for Ultima Online, and how she’s brought her unique flair to UORealms.
Corp Por This: How did you first get into Ultima Online, and what drew you to the game?
MistyMoon: My in-laws were playing it when we came down for Thanksgiving back in '98. It was fun watching them.
Corp Por This: You’ve been a part of Ultima Online for many years. What are some of your most memorable experiences in the game?
MistyMoon: Meeting players that made it fun. This includes joining a guild of Amazons, going to other shards, and getting invited to events and weddings.
Corp Por This: What drew you to UORadio, and what has kept you involved with it for such a long time?
MistyMoon: I was playing on Siege and saw an advert in the general chat about live radio. I visited the website and found it cool to have music while playing. I ended up talking with two DJs and could fill their playlists. Both suggested I become a DJ. I pondered over it and eventually decided to go for it. DJ Doctor had completed the orientation, and DJ Net did mine. What has kept me involved are the friends I’ve made, like Norman Bates the evil banker (who has passed away), and the activities we do, such as games and event coverage.
Corp Por This: You’ve hosted popular events like "Deal or No Deal," "Price is Right," "Find the DJ," and were part of "A Christmas Carol." How did these events impact your overall Ultima Online experience?
MistyMoon: I have hosted "Deal or No Deal" as a sub-sub host and have done "Price is Right" and "Find the DJ" once each. I was also in the Halloween event as the Headless Ghost. It was fun to get the script, rehearse over Teamspeak, and be a part of the stage performance. There should be a recording of one of those with me somewhere; what they have access to is the year after when I was at work. These events have made the game fun, allowing me to bond with others.
Corp Por This: What motivated you to join the UORealms community, and how has your experience been so far on our server, Faerham Citadel?
MistyMoon: I consider one of the main creators a friend. I like the challenge it offers as some things are just not there for easy play. It is not as challenging as Siege Perilous, but old-school enough to make it a challenge.
Corp Por This: As one of our first DJs while we grow the UORealms community, what are you looking forward to achieving or experiencing in this role?
MistyMoon: As the realms grow, I look forward to being staff in a way that enhances the player experience by providing music and taking (non-offensive) music requests to make playing more enjoyable. It's less boring to grind when songs make you bob in your chair, bang your head, play air instruments, or even sing. Covering events, auctions, and game shows to enhance gameplay is also a plus.
Corp Por This: What are some unique aspects of the UORealms community that you particularly enjoy?
MistyMoon: I don't have to worry about wandering healers picking up the reagent I was on the way to pick up. At this time, there are no annoying monbats (though I bet that will change). Those playing are not new players asking, "Hey, what is this and what do I do?"
Corp Por This: Ultima Online has had a significant impact on many players. How has it shaped your personal and family life?
MistyMoon: Having other family members play makes it a family game, and I look forward to playing while at work. I wish I could be paid to play.
Corp Por This: What skills or lessons have you learned from being a DJ and hosting events that have been valuable in other areas of your life?
MistyMoon: Learning new things is always essential, and being willing to do so works in many areas. Being just a voice makes it easier to be outgoing versus lecturing in front of a large group.
Corp Por This: Looking ahead, what are you most excited about with UORealms?
MistyMoon: The expanding games being added, making it more of a "gamers unite" type of site.
Corp Por This: What advice would you give to new players who are just starting in the Ultima Online or UORealms communities?
MistyMoon: Don't be afraid to ask questions. More people are willing to help than you might think. Yes, some earn the name "downer," but they are far fewer than those who are positive.
Corp Por This: Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share with the UORealms community or those interested in joining our servers?
MistyMoon: This game site is still growing. If you have ideas, you can voice them. You will not be treated as a child. Explore new worlds, learn skills, some of which will help in real life. Planning and strategizing are always a plus.
Corp Por This: Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, MistyMoon. Your dedication and passion for both Ultima Online and UORealms are truly inspiring. It's clear that your contributions have made a significant impact on our community.
