Taming and the Gain Pain!

Hello Everyone,

I am working on taming and wanted to provide some perspective for training this skill. I used this Uoguide (‘https://www.uoguide.com/Animal_Taming’) as my foundation. So, from Animal Taming: 50-60, I have been focusing on hinds, timber wolves, and cougars. Please bear in mind that this thread is not a perfect or unflawed attempt to illustrate my return on investment (ROI), but I plan on capturing my successes and failures so that everyone can modify their training tactics and techniques. I always love constructive criticism or suggestions, so please don’t hesitate to chime in or even offer the latter. I plan on attempting 20 timber wolves and then 20 cougars to get a basis for ROI between 50-60 Animal Taming.

First, all of my training is done with a full belly. I also bring plenty of food with me or cast “Create Food”. I was not in my Power Hour, so that may or may not have a profound affect on these results. As mentioned, this isn’t a perfect attempt to illustrate my ROI, but I will modify my attempts moving forward.

I started out with Grand Master (GM) Animal Lore, a.k.a. 100+ Animal Lore. Additionally, I started this project with 56.7 Animal Taming.

***NOTE*** Some people have mentioned a correlation and benefit to having a lower Animal Lore Skill than taming, but because I have GM’ed Lore already, I will not be testing it that way.

I made 20 taming attempts on Hinds only, the results of which are shown in the table above. I started in Moonglow (Felucia), SE of the Moongate below the Graveyard.

***NOTE*** Be careful because you are outside of town guard limits and are subject to player killers (PKs) and hostile Mobs, including a Lich that will kill you quite easily if you are new.

Of the 20 attempts, I succeeded in taming 70% of the time and gained 0.1 taming upon success. Likewise, I failed 30% of the time and gained 0.1 taming upon failing. So, my overall ROI was roughly 10% gains from attempts.

Final Thought:

This skill sucks to gain! Just kidding, I will stick it out and continue to post my progress and failures!

I am the one who names animals D when I tame them lol. I forgot to add that I do keep my lore under my taming as well. I have tamed before with gm lore first and it seems to me it is a big difference and takes a lot longer to gain.

Awesome, well, it was coincidental lol. I think I am going to lower my taming down to like 5 below my Taming and see what I get. Thank you.
